| RAY ROC - BIOGRAPHY
Ray Roc -
aka Ramon Checo - has been
a crucial force on the New York dance scene for nearly
fifteen years. A legendary editor/DJ/remixer/producer/scenester,
he has worked with (and produced and remixed for)
many influential and respected artists, from underground
luminaries like Todd Terry, Juan Kato, Davidson Ospina,
JonhNick of Henry Street Music, Micheal Moog, and
Mark Wilkinson (of Kidsound), through to household
names such as Sheena Easton, New Order, Cher and
Deborah
Cooper (C & C Music Factory), Rocky (Xpress 2),
Tony Moran and Albert Cabrera (Latin Rascals).
Ray’s attention and imagination
was caught most by his cousin’s turntables.
After months of begging for a play and being gently
smacked down, Ray started discovering some of the
early hip hop records and Electro sounds that were
coming through in the early 80’s, tunes like
Shannon’s ‘Let The Music Play’ and
Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rappers Delight’.
This sound was taking disco to another level and
made
his cousins prick up their ears and let him have
a
go on the turntables finally. At the age of 13, Ray
started his first DJ residency - at the Big House.
